Sarah Henson is a San Francisco-based artist from Atlanta, Georgia. Farming in rural North Carolina in her teens and twenties engendered an appreciation for manual labor and an attachment to place that extends into her art practice. Henson’s most recent installation, Articulations of the Page, used handmade paper forms, native prairie grass, iron oxides and letterpress to explore the relationship between histories preserved in the earth and on the page. Henson’s art relies equally on information gained from preliminary research and bodily knowledge that evolves slowly through physical and repetitive processes. Her work explores narrative with living organisms and how estrangement from nature weakens our bonds to language. Henson has completed a residency at Colorado Art Ranch.
